Hi Paul,

Have any of the Master Point Press staff contacted you over this period of time?

What happened when those posts disappeared was the result of an error I made several years ago when moving BridgeBlogging.com to new servers. It was traumatic for me (enough said)…

The missing blog posts could not be "restored". The only option we had was to "re-create" whatever posts we could. For example, in the case of The Aces on Bridge bridge columns, I spent a couple of weeks re-creating them from original source materials. Unfortunately, I had no way of re-creating the associated comments.

Aside: I do some volunteer programming work on the BridgeBlogging.com website so feel I have a vested interest in keeping the site humming.

What we did is reach out to our bloggers asking if they had any source files/backups of their posts that we could use to re-create the missing posts.

If you have any such materials, regardless of whether or not you have sent them to an MPP staffer, please send them to me. I promise I will re-create any posts that I can.

We have missed seeing your posts as, I am sure, have many of the visitors to BridgeBlogging.com and would love to see you posting again.

Some background (just skip the rest unless you are interested):

Technically what happened when we had the disaster, was that during one of the server moves, the site was left pointing at an old database (on a different provider's server!!!). Eventually, the old database (rather than the new one) was deleted and BridgeBlogging crashed. Since the old database was "not being used" we had stopped making regular backups of it (instead, ironically, backing up the new database that wasn't being used).

Needless to say, the site was brought up again using the new database — which continues to be backed up.

One of life's valuable, albeit embarrassing, lessons.

JRG:

I can testify from dozens of nightmares of mine, no one could serve as a better Rescue Squad for me than YOU. MY thanks forever!

Cheers,

Judy
