Questions, questions!

The following is an excerpt from the ACBL Zero Tolerance policy (bold italic mine):

“At the start of each event, the director shall make an announcement that the tournament will be observing ZERO TOLERANCE for unacceptable behavior. It is requested that the director be called whenever behavior is not consistent with the guidelines outlined above.”

For those of you who attended the Philadelphia NABC, two questions:

(i) did you hear a Zero Tolerance announcement made at the start of each event?

(ii) did you see, or hear of, any director calls made regarding Zero Tolerance?

At the Philly NABC (and other recent tournaments):
(i) heard no Zero Tolerance announcements
(ii) did not see or hear of any director calls regarding Zero Tolerance

Violations of Zero Tolerance are creeping back into our bridge playing experience. The directors are doing a very lack job in this area. Instead of coming to the table and staring at everyone, penalties need to be given immediately.

At Philly:
(i) heard no Zero Tolerance announcements (but lots of announcements about turning off phones)
(ii) saw a director call at a table near me concerning rude behavior. As far as I could tell, the director did a decent job of calming the people down, did not issue any sort of penalty
(iii) saw no penalties given out for for any of the numerous ring cell phones
