Getting harder and harder to fathom master point awards! The Friday afternoon game at the local club had 10 1/2 tables in a “web” movement, and paid 1.10 MPs for 1st. The Saturday evening game had 5 tables in a Howell movement, and paid 1.63 for 1st. The Sunday afternoon game was a Swiss with 3 teams, and paid 1.73 for 1st. Hmmmmm………

You didn’t mention how many boards were played. I hadn;’ heard of the “Web Movement”, so I did an Internet search and found this information about them: http://www.ebu.co.uk/newsletters/?id=8&page=4

For pairs games, the masterpoint awards are supposed to be based on how many pairs you play against (with bonuses for things like having a newcomer” game). There are also “Club Championships”, charity games, and an alarming list of events which allow upping the masterpoint awards.

Team games don’t really compare well with pairs (they get bigger awards (including awards for each match a team wins, even if it doesn’t “place overall”.

Hi PC & JRG,

I believe Abe Lincoln offered, “You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time” or close to that, but the ACBL has ostensibly accomplished the maximum, unless, instead just no one cares, which possibly is the case.

In any event, eventually, like most scams, the process will blow up in everyone’s face, or, at the very least, be the constant target of jokes.

If so, our game is just too dignified and overall such a wonderful experience for it to have to suffer under such delusion. I do not think that we know what we are doing, unless the overall agenda has a nefarious overtone.
