Zero Tolerance

Would like to hear people’s experiences with how Zero Tolerance is being perceived at clubs and tournaments.

As to the former, do you think that leaving (almost all) discipline and ZT enforcement at the club level to club management has been a good thing?

For the latter, do you think that ZT is being seen as being enforced at tournaments? Do players and directors seem to understand how it works?

My favorite concepts of zero tolerance are points 5 and 6:

5. In accordance with the Laws of Duplicate Bridge, a director’s to impose a disciplinary is final; however, all such decisions may be appealed. An appeals committee may not overturn the director’s decision, but could recommend that the director reconsider the imposition of a penalty. It should be noted that the committee may feel that the penalty assessed was not severe enough and may refer the matter to a disciplinary committee.

6. A Zero Tolerance Report Form shall be available for players to report incidents which occur away from the table; and for directors to document complaints and action taken. The DIC shall provide a summary report of all behavioral penalties to the Tournament Chairman and/or Recorder.

I like point 5 for appealing a non-appealable ruling
and
point 6’s to report incidences that take place away from the table, say, as in someone’s home, in the car, etc.

In all fairness, it should be noted in point (5) that the director’s decision to impose a ZT penalty is appealable – it is just not overturnable. Not entirely semantics, as a director would take very seriously a committee’s recommendation to reconsider his/her decsion.

Not sure where your wording of point (6) is coming from, as the current ACBL wording is
VI. The DIC shall provide a summary report of all behavioral penalties to the Tournament Chairman and/or Recorder.

Hmm..ZT is the manufacturer of my computer system. Do they know about your plagiarizing their name? They give great support BTW.
